In 2023, you will be faced with a choice. Either get more down-and-dirty with your health and fitness or allow the slow march of chronic disease to overtake you.

The good news is that you don’t need to spend countless of hours at the gym or commit to marathon training. Instead, all you need is to make a few minor changes and implement them into your everyday life.

Change #1

Stop thinking of exercise as something you do whenever you feel like it. You need to see it as a necessary part of your day-to-day life. And by “necessary,” I mean that if you don’t exercise, then all other aspects of your health will suffer in due time. All you need is 30 minutes a day of physical activity, and you’ll be on your way to better health.

The key is to find a form of physical activity that you enjoy and can stick with. The more you like the activity, the more likely it is that you’ll keep doing it. For example, if running isn’t your thing but swimming is, then start swimming instead. If walking around the neighborhood doesn’t sound appealing, but playing tennis does, then get out there and hit some balls!

Change #2

Get more sleep. I know; it’s a bummer. You thought you were doing just fine with an average of 6.5 hours of sleep per night. But what you didn’t know was how much better your life would be if you got 8 hours of sleep every night instead.

You’ll feel more alert, you’ll be able to concentrate better, and your mood will improve dramatically. And as an added bonus, you’ll burn more calories while sleeping than if you were awake! So make sure that when it comes time to hit the sack each night, you turn off your alarm clock (yes, even the snooze button) and get those 8 hours of beauty sleep.

Change #3

Drink more water. This is an easy one. You can start drinking water right now and benefit from it immediately. Aim to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces.

So if you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water a day. This will help flush out your system, keep your skin healthy and give you more energy. Plus, it’s also good for your metabolism!

Change #4

Eat less processed food and more whole foods. This is another easy one that will significantly impact your health (and not just because it’s easier to find the ingredients you need at the grocery store).

Processed foods are filled with preservatives, chemicals, and unhealthy fats that can cause inflammation in your body. Whole foods are unprocessed and include things like fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and fish.

Change#5

To cement your work on the four areas I’ve discussed, you need to be consistent. If you make these changes a daily habit over time, they’ll become easier.

This is a process and won’t happen overnight, but you will see results if you stick with it. And remember, if you slip up on any of these changes, don’t beat yourself up or tell yourself that you’ve failed. Just get back on track and keep going.

In conclusion

If you want to change your life, it’s not enough to just think about it. You have to take action. The four areas I’ve discussed above are some of the low-hanging fruits you can pick to make changes. it’s a good place to start. If you do it consistently over time, these changes will become easier to make and significantly improve your life. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments. I’d also love to hear about your own experiences with making a change in your life!
